Where to Stay in Umbria | |
| A personal selection of apartments, B&B, hotels, private villas and agriturismi in Umbria from simple, family run accommodation or self catering to luxurious country houses | |
Recently restored to an extremely high standard, Palazzo Maz was once the manor house or casa padronale of its tiny hilltop village. Providing luxury B&B accommodation, the Palazzo has three suites and three bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms and one bedroom also suitable for guests with mobility difficulties, a spacious breakfast room with french doors opening onto a terrace beyond and a swimming pool set in charming terraced gardens with beautiful views over the valley beyond. There is also a tiny private chapel with original frescoes which makes a perfect setting for an intimate and elegant wedding in Italy.
Each suite is furnished in contemporary style to a very high standard with designer en-suite bathrooms. All have views over the Umbrian countryside beyond and some also look onto the courtyard below.
Located right on the Tuscan border, it is an ideal base from which to explore both Umbria and Tuscany with towns and cities like Perugia, Assisi, Gubbio, Todi, Orvieto, Cortona and Siena within easy reach as well as the city of Florence.
Città di Castello and Umbertide are within a 15 minute drive and the gorgeous medieval hilltop towns of Montone and Monte Santa Maria Tiberina are only a short distance away.
A great area for excursions on foot, hiking and mountain biking. There is horseriding and trekking nearby. For golfers, the international championship golf course of Antognolla is only half an hour away...
Palazzo Maz has retained many of its interesting and original features, including a massive pietra serena stone staircase that runs up the centre of the three floors of the Palazzo. The gardens are beautifully wooded and landscaped down the terraced hillside with two mystical grottoes and several different secluded areas for sitting, relaxing and absorbing the quiet and tranquility that is Umbria…
For eating out there is an excellent family run restaurant just a short walk away on the edge of the village. Coffees, teas, drinks, aperitivo and snacks are available at the Palazzo throughout the day and guests are welcome to use the kitchen as well!
There are many excellent restaurants and trattorias in this area of Umbria, most within a 20 minute drive of the Palazzo, so there is plenty of choice.
