Originally a Casa Padronale, Casale degli Ulivi is situated on the hillside at Comunaglia in Umbria, on the border with Tuscany, with stunning views over the surrounding hills and valleys. Offering luxury self catering accommodation in Umbria for 2, 4 or 6 people, the first floor has recently been restored and converted into a beautiful two-bedroom apartment, both with en-suite bathrooms, making great holiday accommodation in the Green Heart of Italy. Perfect as a base for those seeking to experience the rich culture, regional cuisine, vineyards, medieval hilltop towns and countryside that this stunning region of Italy has to offer....
The main feature of the living room is the fantastic stone fireplace, over three hundred years old. With contemporary 3 seated leather sofa bed (converts to double bed) and armchair, Sky television and DVD, internet, bookshelves and library, this is a wonderful place to relax. The original wooden staircase that used to lead up to the second floor is still in place, but is now housed in a rustic wooden cupboard providing useful storage space. The large kitchen leads off of the living room and has a fully fitted contemporary kitchen in Shaker style with oven, dishwasher and fridge freezer. There is a table and chairs for dining and windows on both sides overlooking both the courtyard and the view across the valley.
The apartment is furnished to a very high standard and the tariffs include bed and bathroom linens (with a weekly change including maid service for bookings of more than one week) and a final cleaning of the apartment on departure. A welcome pack is included with basic provisions.
The apartment offers an ideal base from which to explore both Umbria and Tuscany with towns like Perugia, Gubbio, Assisi, Spello, Spoleto, Todi, Cortona, Anghiari, Sansepolcro and Siena within easy reach, as well as the city of Florence.
Camera Audriana overlooks the rolling Umbrian hillside towards Tuscany. There is a large double bed. The wardrobe has been created out of an original pietra serena bookcase that once stood to the right hand side of the original front door. The .en-suite bathroom has many beautiful features including the original tiled arch that used to frame the main doorway and is now part of the shower. A round ceramic basin rests on a slab of travertine marble and there is a toilet with bidet.
Camera Gregoriano looks north towards the mountain of Monte Santa Maria Tiberina and the Tiber Valley. There is a large double bed and hand painted, wooden wardrobe. The en-suite bathroom has a large shower, toilet with bidet and round ceramic basin resting on a slab of travertine marble.
The apartment is available on a self catering basis, but there is an excellent family run trattoria, two minutes walk down the hill where they make the best pizzas in the area!! It’s a great place to go and eat if you get back from sightseeing too tired to cook, or you can get take away pizza and eat it on the terrace watching the sun set over the Tuscan hills beyond…
There is a small loggia opposite the front door of the apartment with chairs and table where guests can sit and take breakfast in the warmth of the Umbrian sun. There is a small olive grove and a variety of fruit trees in the extensive gardens surrounding Casale degli Ulivi, which guests are welcome to use as their own, including the panoramic terrace. A laundry room is on the ground floor with a washing machine for guests’ use.
Although the Casale is off the beaten track, it is easily accessible by tarmac road and is only 5 minutes drive from the village of Calzolaro, 10 minutes drive from the busy town of Trestina and 20 minutes from both Città di Castello and Umbertide.
